Earthquakes and Volcanoes release pent up energy. Pressure. Heat.
It escapes as it can, but eventually . . . something blows.
And then things crumble or rattle, tremble or . . . ooze.
We sometimes have no idea they are coming.
And we often stare in disbelief . . .
AT WHAT ENSUES.
But, beneath the devastation and destruction we see,
Lies a potent, powerful - and beautiful - unfolding.
Something so important it likely could
Come forth in no other way.
New life takes form once the old is swept away.
Buried and swallowed again by the earth,
We are dismayed by what remains.
Yet . . . it calls to us.
It stirs us.
And we respond.
In time, we focus not on the damage or loss,
But on what can be made of its disarray.
We turn our attention then to crafting
A NEW LIFE. A NEW PLACE.
A NEW WAY.
And that is, in the end, ever the point.
Natural disasters, so to speak,
Are TRANSFORMATIONAL
EVENTS.
They force us - and our lives - to transform.
Often leaving little or nothing in their wake,
We are at a loss as to how to proceed.
But soon, a glimmer comes,
And then another.
And we begin
